Creative Writing Term Paper (A Short Story) Dumb Luck By Kartikeya Kumar Jain (2014B4A7913G) It was a steamy, blazing hot day of July. The sun was beating down on the pedestrians like an angry vengeful god. Allen dreaded the heat. His clothes were wet with sweat from perspiration. It was the worst time to be stuck on a highway with a broken car. But oddly enough he was quite happy. He almost decided to just sit there for the rest of day. A hot day of summer was a welcome paradise from the days of hell he spent in jail. He contemplated walking to his home. It was still early and he would reach his home by night. â€Å"Well then, take the route passing through the next freeway. It is a busy road and the only route from the north to the city of New York† the cab driver instructed Allen. If lucky enough you can hitch a ride to the city.† â€Å"Lucky,† he smirked, whispering to himself. â€Å"With my dumb luck†. Born into poor a farming family, Allen’s life has always been one struggle after another. â€Å"It’s a family curse† Allen’s father often lamented in his increasingly infrequent moments of sobriety. â€Å"You can’t escape it†. Those words stuck with Allen for all his life. But he was a stubborn man. He never let those word get to him. He fought it, persevered and finally attained a life he could be proud of. He found work in a prestigious firm and married a caring and understanding woman. When he loosened his guard his luck struck again. He got arrested for a crime he didn’t commit. His
